The cold was starting to seep through my clothes. A flimsy polyester jacket was no match for Shenyang's cold winter. If I had known that I would end up here, I would have packed something sturdier. But there's no time to fuss about this now. I had to get to the shelter. It wasn't just about survival. My brother would die if I don't get there in time.
As I willed my feet to move faster through the snow covered forest, I heard the sound of feet trumping through the snow behind me. My heart sped up in fear. Have they already caught up to me? I thought I had at least a good 30 minutes before they realized what had happened. As the footsteps grew louder, I ducked behind a large tree and caught a glimpse of their conversation.
"...bad day... gone hiking... I know... be there soon..."
My heart calmed down. They were only hikers. Suddenly, rough hands grabbed me from behind. I tried to scream out but my captor slammed a dirty hand over my mouth, cutting me off.
"You can't run forever, sweet heart. You can't run from destiny," a sharp, nasally voice whispered in my ear.
I kicked sharply behind me, but to no prevail. It only resulted in me being grabbed harder.
"Don't try to escape, honey. You will be ours in the end. Quickly, knock her out." I didn't realize there were more people behind me. My usually sharp senses have failed my today. I managed to get a ghost of a shout out from inbetween my captor's fingers before something hit me. My eyes swam and my vision went black.
