The Wind Thieves Chapter 1

I ran amongst the trees, trying to escape the guards that were chasing me. They were shouting at me, cursing in another language. Yet, whatever they did or said, they would never catch up to me. I was fast. Maybe even the fastest. No one has ever beaten me yet.

I zigzagged through the trees. Not because I was lost, but because I wanted to get rid of those guys behind me. They would be a bother to my friends who were waiting not far ahead.

As the guards' voices faded, meaning they either stopped chasing me, or were left far, far behind, I started to slow down, appreciating the environment around me. The dark, mysterious forest was beautifully captivating, yet sinister. I shook my head to clear it. This wasn't the time to stop. My friends were counting on me. I had to get to them soon

I heard Hakuro’s crisp, demanding voice about a mile before I reached him. He was talking into his walkie-talkie. Not wanting to disturb him, I crept up behind him to hear what he was saying.

“...Looking good. No guards in sight. No sight of speed freak Kage anywhere either. I think he... AHHHHHHHH!!!! WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING BEHIND MY BACK?!?!”

He stood there, shaken. He really had no idea I was coming behind him. Hmm... Either his senses were getting worse, or I was getting better at creeping. I think the reason was the latter of the two. Not that I'm boasting or anything.

I grabbed the walkie-talkie. “Yo! Kage reporting in. I have the jewels in my bag and I have officially lost the guards, man. They were slower than a turtle in a thorn bush.” I reported. “And I had time to scare Hakuro. Man, what a blast! Hah! You shoulda seen the look on his face!.”

“Oh brother. Nice to hear your boasty, irritating, annoying, loud, disturbing... Hmmkph. Uh, voice again, Kage.” Chya’s voice was loud and clear in the talkie-walkie. “Good to hear that the mission went according to plan. Go and pick up the others from their safe spot. I’ll be joining you when everyone will be there. Over and out.”

“You heard what the boss said?” I asked Hakuro. “Time to get the others!”

He reculantly hopped onto my back and I started running again.
